Latest research on the lifelong effects of premature birth

20 Feb 2024

The Champion Foundation Trust is a charity dedicated to supporting babies born prematurely or with disabilities.

One of its aims is to grow awareness about how an early birth can impact the rest of a person’s life.

That is why the trust commissioned a report by Drs’ Alison Gray and Patricia Champion to summarise the recent international evidence around the significant long-term effects of a premature birth.

“Around seven percent of our pēpi are born premature and there is clear evidence that an early birth can result in lifelong vulnerabilities for the brain and other organs.”
