Budget 2018 – Learning Support information
18 May 2018
Tēnā koe
As you will be aware, the Coalition Government announced yesterday a boost for Learning Support initiatives to help all children and young people reach their potential in education. This is made up of $283.8 million over the next four years to meet growth and fund investment in a range of supports and services for students with additional learning needs.
The Government is prioritising new spending to remove barriers to children and young people’s access to education and learning, putting the needs of young people back at the centre of the education system.
Part of the Coalition Government’s plan to ensure every child with learning challenges has access to the tools and professionals they need to be their best, the Learning Support initiatives in Budget 2018 include increases in operating expenses for:
- The Ongoing Resourcing Scheme (ORS)
- Sensory schools and New Zealand Sign Language
- Teacher-aide funding rates
- Te Kahu Tōī Intensive Wraparound Service
- Early Intervention Services
- English for Speakers of Other Languages programmes
I have attached an information sheet with more detail about each of these initiatives. Please feel free to circulate this to any groups or individuals who may be interested.
